At a family gathering we celebrated Ella's birthday this evening. Because parties must have themes, the theme for this 3rd birthday party was ponies. And among the themed items that showed up was a pink pony pinata and a nicely decorated tiny baseball bat for whacking the pinata.
Ella took right to the bat. She wanted to play ball in the house. Barring that, she just carried it around.
Somewhere along the line her college age cousin Jessica started having Ella tap her own bottom with the bat. Each time Ella would do this, Jessica would toss out some of the candies that are sitting on every open surface waiting for somebody to eat them.
Ella thought this was hilarious, and well worth the effort. She spent the next 45 minutes looking behind her and swinging the bat at her butt. Pretty much every adult in the room was causing candy to appear when she did this. Ella's shrikes of delight were infectious.
At first Claire was just as delighted and surprised as Ella was, but being the five year old big sister, she worked it out pretty quickly. She started grabbing candy and instructing Ella to hit her own bottom and then, unlike the sly adults, just placing candy on the floor. Didn't bother Ella. She kept on making candy.
Ella took short breaks to find anybody who would listen to explain how candy falls out of her backside, then proceed to demonstrate.

She then said look I have a "Pinata butt". For me that was the funniest part.
