Violin progress

In the last five months or so Claire's progress in learning the violin has been wonderful, almost stunning. She passed from the "Pre-twinkle" phase into "Suzuki book I" and is picking up on songs at a good clip. She has a great ear and can pick up simple tunes in the key of A pretty easily. She only knows the fingerings for tunes in the key of A. She also likes to sit at the piano, on which she has no formal training, and plink out the tunes she knows on the violin. It's fun.

Ella started on violin in October. She's working through the basics that I remember working on with Claire when she was 2 1/2. It's fun. Ella's a bit of a crazy girl and likes to be continuously moving while we practice.

Tonight Ella decided that she was going to read music. So she walked over to the music stand that was still up from Claire's practice, and went through a routine where she would point her bow at a note, declare that it was an A or an E (no matter what it actually was, although she did seem to be identifying A and E pretty consistently) and then play an open A on her violin. It was cute.
