Crouper Trouper

Last night Claire woke up about an hour after going to bed with a little cough and a lot of crying. I got her back to bed, but she was up again by 11pm and this time she sounded like a geriatric seal. The overnight line for our pediatrician suggested that we take her into the urgent care center, so we did. Before we left she was shaking with every breath and horribly upset - once we had her outside she started breathing a little easier. Apparently cold air helps with the croup cough, which is what she has.

With that little burst of cold air she calmed down and reverted to her more typical curious nature - but with a somewhat funny little rasp in her voice. As we waited (and waited, and waited) in the so-called urgent care center she was alert and happy to name anything she recognized and babble at everything else.

All is well. Next time I think we'll just take her outside and assess before we head to the not-so-urgent care center.
